BMW XM

A performance SUV with presence

The BMW XM is a large performance SUV, not a low-slung sports car. Its 4.4L V8 plug-in hybrid delivers 644 hp through an automatic transmission, so joining Sheikh Zayed Road or passing slower traffic takes little effort. The power feels substantial rather than frantic, while the ride is firmer than you might expect from a conventional luxury SUV.

That size is part of its appeal at a hotel valet, but it is worth bearing in mind around tight Marina parking spaces and Downtown traffic. Take speed bumps steadily, as you would in any substantial SUV.

Room for the people coming with you

With five seats and five doors, the XM makes sense for a family outing, a business visit with colleagues or a birthday where the car is part of the occasion. It gives passengers a proper SUV cabin without losing the strong acceleration that makes the journey interesting.

It also suits a drive along Jumeirah Beach Road or an unhurried trip to Abu Dhabi. If you want a soft, understated cruiser, its assertive character and firmer ride may not be the best match.
