The Nissan Patrol has the presence of a full-size SUV, but it makes most sense when you have people to carry and ground to cover. On Sheikh Zayed Road, the V8 has an easy, unhurried feel; in Downtown traffic, the automatic transmission keeps the drive straightforward. Its size is worth remembering in tight Marina parking spaces, though the higher seating position gives you a clear view of the road ahead.

It is comfortable enough for a day of city stops without feeling out of place at a hotel entrance. Speed bumps and busy junctions still call for the same measured approach you would take in any large SUV.

Room for the plans that need it

With seven seats and five doors, the Patrol suits family visits, airport runs and groups travelling together. It is also a sensible choice for a longer drive to Abu Dhabi or a paved-road trip towards Hatta, particularly when passengers would rather share one vehicle than split up.

If everyone is travelling with luggage, think about how much space you will need with the seats in use. For smaller groups, the Patrol gives you more flexibility for bags and day-trip essentials.
